National Reading Month, Read Across America Day and Nutrition Month were all cause for major celebration –Dr. Seuss style – at Childtime in Sacramento this week. Gold-medal Olympic swimmer Summer Sanders joined children at the school in reading “Oh, the Things You Can Do That Are Good For You” in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
The story teaches children about eating right, staying active, getting enough sleep, and making healthy choices – important lessons behind the company’s Grow Fit philosophy. In addition to reading the beloved book, Sanders also enjoyed sharing a healthy snack with the children, who took turns trying on her Olympic medals.
Sanders – a champion athlete, TV host, and actress – visited the school as an ambassador for Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA). Childtime and its sister schools throughout Learning Care Group nationwide have teamed with PHA to prevent childhood obesity and avoid chronic disease later in life.
Childtime’s comprehensive Grow Fit program helps pave the way for a lifetime of healthy habits by encouraging balanced nutrition and physical activity in early childhood. As a PHA partner, the company is committed to serving fruits and vegetables with every meal; feeding children in a family-style setting; providing a minimum of at least one hour of physical activity each day; and limiting screen time activities for all children in its care.
