As we work to address the challenges of the pandemic we’ve faced for the past few months, our country is also wrestling with a different, long-standing crisis.
Over the past few days, civil unrest and protests have erupted nationwide over the horrific death of George Floyd, which, along with the recent tragic deaths of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, builds on a legacy of injustice we’ve struggled to overcome as a country. The public outcry reflects the collective pain and frustration over the systemic mistreatment of individuals and communities that have been marginalized due to race.
Although it should go without saying, to be clear: at Learning Care Group, we stand together in the condemnation of injustice, racism, discrimination, police brutality, and violence of any kind. As we grieve over these senseless acts, we’re reaffirming our commitment to ensure that each of our children, employees and school families feels valued, respected, and heard.
Our promise of providing a nurturing learning environment starts with prioritizing safety as the foundation of everything we do. That includes not only all of the measures we’re taking to ensure wellness and physical safety, but also emotional safety, and the underlying belief that everyone in our extended community deserves to be treated equitably.
As educators and care givers, we play a vital role in shaping the next generation as children watch and learn from us. Diversity and inclusion are integral in our curriculum as we emphasize kindness and empathy among the most valuable of life skills. We know that we owe it to the children, our school families and one another to truly live by these core values every day. We can help our communities heal by listening and learning, encouraging candid conversations and earning trust.
COVID-19 has shown us that we can face the toughest of circumstances and find solutions by working together. We can and will rise above our societal challenges through the same level of commitment and partnership.
Sincerely,
Mark Bierley
